dear mr. sendak,

You are rocking our world. Not only have you brought us adventures of Little Bear and given us a tiny glimpse into Where the Wild Things Are, you've also spun the story of Pierre a cautionary tale, about the apathetic lad who was eaten by a lion, served us Chicken Soup with Rice, etc.

We just cracked open the Nutshell Library, an early bday gift for G from Katie + fam. Although the mini books fit perfectly in the boy's hands, I am convinced they are more a gift for me and less for G. I am swooning over the illustrations and old school charm. Funny how a book 2 inches tall could so strongly compel one to redecorate her living room.

I have always been a fan of children's literature, partially inspired by my grandma, the elementary school librarian who always kept our bookshelves filled with the finest stories at birthdays or Christmas. However sharing the classics with G has been a marvelous treat. Am enjoying the wonders, tales, and treasuries all the more the second time around.

Glad you guys like it!! Elijah loves those books. Chicken soup is his favorite and he has it memorized, but he also is getting into Pierre now. I'm hoping "One was Johnny" will follow soon, I like that one too. :) The Alligators one is longer than it looks!

do enjoy all those treasures- i'm sure it is 100x better when you have a little one to read to. but for now, i'll just keep storing them up for the future!

we LOVE those books- and for when he is older - scholastic books has set them all to song in a movie with Carole King as a singer.

The musical version is incredible. I had a cassette tape of "Really Rosie" when I was little, and I would dance on the furniture singing "A - Alligators All Around, B - Bursting Balloons!" until the tape actually wore out from over use when I was a teen. I HIGHLY recommend it.
