elijah's foot stool

Yesterday my sil reminded me that I hadn't shared pics of our nephew's Christmas gift yet. In an attempt to give more handmade thoughtful Christmas gifts, I painted and decoupaged this little wooden foot stool. The quirky owl and tree were inspired by Katie's new shower curtain and revamped bathroom decor. Now that Eli is nearly two, he's learning to brush teeth and wash hands and needs to reach that big bathroom sink somehow...
I painted the stool with two fun, coordinating acrylic paints. While that was drying, I whittled his name and the pictures out of scrapbooking paper. The top is plastered down with ample amounts of decoupage. Very simple. Very fun.Tell me, why is it that handmade gifts are most easily given to either kids or grandmas? They are my favorite recipients. I believe it is all about the inhibition factor. I worry less about my mistakes and have more fun creating--because I know kids and grandmas alike will receive the object with emphatic delight, then display/and or play with gusto. No matter what.

What a special gift for your sweet nephew! And what a big boy he's getting to be! I love that you coordinated it to your sil's bathroom! I'm sure it will still be around when parts and pieces of Christmas toys are long gone, too! Great job!
Blessings!

I bought the unfinished piece at Michael's--but I'm sure you could find something similar at any craft store or place that sells unfinished furniture.

Great idea! I have a handpainted step stool that my mom made for me once upon a time. Homework has been done on it . . . higher places reached, etc., etc. So neat. Kelly
