our nest: living room

And last but certainly not least...Our living room! I must start out by saying a sincere thank you for all of the syrupy sweet comments about our apartment this week. I am blushing and feeling even more grateful for this little corner of the world we call our home! I can't help but dream about someday having a more matchy-matchy kitchen, or getting nicer furniture, or learning how to master the art of window treatments....But for now, I'm happy right where we are. Of course that's not to say I won't stop trying to chanel my inner decorator--repainting, rearranging, and perusing the home section at Marshall's. ;) And there won't be anything more liberating than one day calling Goodwill to come, take our slipcovered beastess of a 1970s pea-green couch away.

I loooooove being spoiled with built-in window seats! One day I hope to fill this window with more lavish, interesting pillows, but for now these Ikea pillows are getting the point across. {I like them better here than on the couch.} As usual, I am struggling with the curtain situation. These red ticking stripe curtains were an impulse buy from our last trip to Ikea. Still, I can't figure out why I'm so attracted to them. I know I definitely need to hem up the bottoms, as right now those extra 10 inches are serving no better purpose than as dust magnets.
This sideboard belonged to the same great-grandma as the kitchen table. (What great taste in furniture!) I also refinished it with my dad after discovering it in our attic with some warped water damage on the top. You know, I will always cherish my memories of times spent restoring furniture with my dad. It was sometimes tough to compete for his attention growing up with 4 brothers who could spend entire weekends bonding with him under the car hood or at the batting cage. Anyway, back to the sideboard buffet: it is 100% necessary for storing all of those beautiful, fragile wedding gifts that don't get used enough (i.e. candlesticks, crystal serving platters, extra wine glasses, extra silverware).

1. Love your place!
2. Your refinished furniture is lovely!
3. I am also a fresh flower addict and have no trouble buying myself bouquets! Currently I have red gerbera daisies and some spiky pink things!

Thanks for visiting me! Can I just say....I love your IKEA floral pillows. I have the "first edition" of those pillows and two of the matching lamp shades in my living room. They are so colorful and cheery. I can understand your attraction to the red ticking curtains...very cute. Your home has such a lovely quality to it...light and peaceful and cheery. I'd love to do a home tour of my place but it is never clean enough!

Okay, I must have missed some rooms because I was going back and perusing your lovely home and saw your bedroom, bathroom, french doors etc. All lovely. We are redoing our bedroom and I just recently put up the same curtains that you have on your french doors. I love the sunlight coming through them...so pretty. Just had to comment on your good taste! :)

So lovely Jessica. Thank you for having all of us for the week. It's been a lot of fun. I love how you have the bookcases arranged and the big picture of you and Jeff is so sweet. You have a very warm and inviting home. You should be very proud of it.
